Chapter 5 - The Hidden Tracker

I slammed my foot on the brake pedal, throwing the sedan onto the shoulder of the empty highway.

David was absolutely unhinged, heavily armed, and waiting for me to walk directly into his death trap.

I knew with terrifying certainty that he was planning to shoot me the moment I opened the front door and claim self-defense against a deranged wife.

I stared at the live video feed on the burner phone, desperately trying to figure out who was sending me this footage.

I realized the camera angle was coming from the air conditioning vent in the ceiling, a spot I had never installed a camera.

Someone else had been secretly recording the inside of our house long before this nightmare ever began.

I could not risk going home, so I typed the address Sarah had given me into the vehicle's navigation system.

It led me to an abandoned, heavily boarded-up motel on the very edge of the county limits.

I parked the car behind a rusted dumpster and ran through the pouring rain to room number four, exactly as the note instructed.

The door was unlocked, and I stumbled inside, collapsing onto the dusty carpet in sheer exhaustion.

The room was completely bare except for a single folding chair and a dusty wooden desk.

I sat on the floor, shivering in my damp clothes, trying to formulate a plan to expose David and his corrupted family.

Suddenly, the burner phone buzzed angrily in my hand with a new notification.

It was an automated alert from my car's onboard diagnostic system, a feature I had set up years ago.

The alert warned me that an unauthorized GPS tracking device had just been magnetically attached to the rear bumper of the blue sedan.

I scrambled to the window and peered through a crack in the filthy blinds, looking out into the flooded parking lot.

Two massive, black SUVs with tinted windows were slowly pulling into the motel entrance, completely blocking the only exit.
