Chapter 8 - The Ultimatum

I stared at the gun pointed at my face, refusing to show Noelle even an ounce of fear.

"You can kill me, Noelle, but you will never get your hands on my children," I said coldly.

Noelle laughed, a sharp, psychotic sound that echoed off the glass walls of the office.

"I don't want your pathetic children, Evan, I just want them to disappear."

She reached into her designer purse and pulled out a stack of legal documents.

"These papers declare Rachel an unfit mother with severe psychiatric issues."

"Once you are out of the picture, my family's judges will place those triplets in a closed orphanage across the world."

My blood boiled with a rage so intense I could barely see straight.

"Why are you doing this?" I demanded. "You already ruined our relationship, why hunt the babies?"

Noelle's arrogant smile faded, replaced by a look of pure, unadulterated hatred.

"Because my father left his entire company to my future husband in his will, not to me."

"If you marry me on Saturday, I control the empire through you."

"But if the board finds out you have illegitimate heirs with some waitress, they will void the merger."

She aggressively shoved a pen into my hand.

"Sign the papers, Evan, or I promise you Rachel will not survive the night."

I looked down at the documents, my mind frantically searching for a way out of this nightmare.

I noticed the computer screen behind Noelle was still quietly syncing to a cloud server I had secretly initiated.

I just needed to keep her talking for one more minute.

"You are going to lose everything when the FBI sees these files, Noelle," I stalled.

She cocked the pistol, stepping so close I could smell her expensive perfume.

"The FBI works for my father, Evan, now sign the damn papers!" she screamed.

Just as the pen touched the paper, the office windows suddenly shattered inward.

A heavily armed SWAT team swung through the broken glass on tactical ropes, immediately tackling Noelle to the ground.

The lead agent stood up, brushing glass off his uniform, and looked directly at me.

"Mr. Stanton, your friend Mark gave us your location just in time."
