Chapter 6 - The Trap

I waved my arms frantically, trying to flag down the approaching police boat.
"Over here, we need help!" I yelled across the dark water.
The police boat pulled alongside our dying vessel, and two officers immediately threw us a heavy rope.
We carefully transferred the shivering triplets into the warm, illuminated cabin of the police cruiser.
"Thank God you found us, my ex-fiancée is trying to kidnap my children," I told the commanding officer.
The officer did not offer a comforting smile or hand us a blanket.
Instead, he unclipped his radio and spoke with a cold, deadpan voice.
"Target secured, bring the transport vans to the North Pier."
My stomach dropped as I realized the Philadelphia police badge on his uniform was entirely fake.
These men were not real cops; they were more of Noelle's highly paid mercenaries.
One of the fake officers pulled a heavy stun gun from his belt and aimed it directly at my chest.
"Sit down and shut up, Mr. Stanton, or I will drop you right in front of your kids," he threatened.
Rachel pulled the babies tightly against her chest, tears of absolute terror streaming down her face.
I raised my hands slowly, scanning the cabin for any possible weapon.
I noticed a heavy red fire extinguisher mounted loosely to the wall right behind the mercenary.
"Noelle will never get away with this, there are too many witnesses in the city," I bluffed, trying to distract him.
The mercenary laughed, stepping closer to me with the sparking stun gun.
"Your fiancée owns the city, buddy, nobody is coming to save you."
I lunged forward, not toward the man, but toward the wall behind him.
I grabbed the fire extinguisher and smashed the heavy metal base directly into the mercenary's face.
He collapsed instantly, dropping the stun gun onto the metal floor.
The second fake officer reached for his pistol, but I kicked the stun gun directly into a puddle of water at his feet.
The electrical current surged through the puddle, violently shocking the man until he fell unconscious.

I grabbed the boat's steering wheel and slammed the throttle forward.
"Hold on, Rachel, we are crashing this thing into the docks!" I yelled.
