Chapter 5 - The Fall of the Bride

Gravity seized my wheelchair.

I plummeted forward toward the jagged stone steps.

I squeezed my eyes shut and braced for the agonizing impact.

I knew my fragile skin wouldn't survive this fall.

Suddenly, a strong pair of arms wrapped around my waist.

Daniel threw himself in front of the chair.

He used his own body as a wedge against the stone edge.

The heavy metal wheels slammed into his ribs.

He grunted in pain but held on tight.

We tipped sideways and crashed onto the landing together.

I was safe.

Daniel groaned and pulled himself up.

He checked my arms and face frantically.

"Are you hurt, Sarah?" he asked breathlessly.

"I'm okay," I whispered, shaking violently.

Inside the church, absolute chaos had erupted.

Margaret slapped Emily across the face.

The sound echoed like a gunshot.

Emily fell to the marble floor, clutching her cheek.

"You tried to kill her!" Margaret screamed.

Mark rushed forward, no longer caring about his image.

He grabbed a heavy brass candelabra from a pew.

He pointed the blunt weapon at Margaret and Daniel.

"Nobody is leaving this building until I say so!" he roared.

The wedding guests were screaming and scrambling for the side exits.

Mark moved to block the main doors.

He locked the heavy deadbolt with a loud click.

We were trapped inside the vestibule with a madman.

Daniel stepped in front of me to shield my body.

"You're making this worse, Mark," Daniel warned.

"The police are already coming."

Mark's eyes darted around the room wildly.

He looked at me with pure hatred.

"You ruined everything, Sarah."

"I should have let you burn in that house twelve years ago."

He raised the heavy brass candelabra.

He took a terrifying step toward us.

"I know who your real parents are, Sarah."

"And if you don't call off the FBI right now, I will take their names to my grave."
