Chapter 4 - The Fraudulent Trust

The church was dead silent.

Everyone was waiting for Margaret's next move.

She was the most ruthless corporate lawyer in Charleston.

Nobody ever won a game of chess against Margaret Callahan.

"You can't cut off her trust fund, Mark," she stated calmly.

"Because it isn't your money."

Mark's arrogant smile faltered.

"I am the executor of that estate," he snapped.

Margaret pulled out her cell phone.

"You were the executor."

"But my investigators found out where that money actually came from."

"It wasn't an insurance payout from the fire."

"It was a trust fund set up by Sarah's biological grandparents."

"A family vastly wealthier than the Whitmores."

I gasped.

I had biological family out there?

"You've been skimming millions off the top of Sarah's trust for twelve years," Margaret continued.

"That's how you afforded this ridiculous wedding."

Emily shrieked from the altar.

"That's a lie!"

"We are rich because Daddy is a genius!"

Daniel looked at Emily with absolute pity.

"Your dress was paid for with stolen money, Emily."

Mark took a threatening step toward Margaret.

"You have no proof of this."

Margaret tapped her phone screen.

"I just sent the offshore bank records to the FBI."

"They are on their way here right now."

Panic flashed in Mark's eyes.

He looked desperately toward the heavy wooden doors of the church.

He knew he was going to prison.

Linda collapsed into a pew, sobbing uncontrollably.

"I told you this would happen, Mark!" she cried.

Daniel walked around my wheelchair to push me toward the exit.

"Let's get you out of here, Sarah."

I felt a wave of relief wash over me.

We reached the top of the steep stone ramp leading out of the church.

Daniel let go of the handles to open the heavy double doors.

Suddenly, I felt a violent shove from behind.

My wheelchair jolted forward.

The brakes snapped loudly.

I was rolling toward the edge of the steep stone stairs.

I turned my head and saw Emily standing behind me.

May you like

Her eyes were completely deranged.

"If I go down, you're coming with me!" she screamed.
