Chapter 6 - The Vanishing Ink

I sat perfectly still in my car while the toxicologist's horrifying words echoed loudly in my mind.
My husband had just handed me a cup of deadly poison with a loving smile on his handsome face.
I realized I could not rely on the local police precinct to handle this massive, dangerous conspiracy.
Ryan had close friends in the local police department, and they would easily sweep this under the rug for him.
I needed to utterly destroy him, Maya, and Elena entirely on my own terms.
I drove to a specialty espionage supply store downtown and purchased a pen filled with professional disappearing ink.
I returned to my quiet house and found the real estate transfer documents still sitting exactly on his desk.
I confidently signed my name on the dotted line using the trick pen I had just bought.
The dark blue ink looked completely permanent, but I knew it would vanish entirely within twenty-four hours.
I placed the signed folder carefully on his computer keyboard where he could not possibly miss it.
When Ryan came home from work, he saw the signature and his dark eyes lit up with greedy excitement.
He hugged me tightly and thanked me for trusting him so deeply with our joint financial future.
I smiled against his shoulder and suggested we celebrate our marriage at an upscale restaurant tonight.
I told him to invite Maya, pretending I thought she had delayed her Seattle trip to stay in town.
Ryan eagerly agreed, completely unaware that he was stepping directly into my meticulously planned trap.
I spent the next two hours secretly securing my personal bank accounts and transferring my remaining assets to an impenetrable trust.
I arrived at the luxury French restaurant early and requested their most exclusive private dining room.
Ryan arrived shortly after, holding the arm of a woman wearing a stunning, form-fitting red dress.

It was absolutely not Maya.
It was Elena, and she was proudly wearing my late grandmother's stolen diamond necklace.
