Chapter 9 - The Reckoning
The sound of fifty envelopes being torn open simultaneously filled the massive ballroom.
Gasps of horror and whispers of disgust quickly erupted from every table.
The guests stared in shock at the forged financial documents, the fraudulent insurance policy, and the undeniable proof of embezzlement.
Gavin screamed for everyone to stop reading, claiming the documents were entirely fake.
I calmly walked to the microphone and read the DNA paternity results out loud for the entire room to hear.
I announced that Gavin was not the father of baby Leo, but merely a pathetic pawn in Brooke's twisted game.
Brooke shrieked in absolute panic as I revealed that Gavin's dangerous brother, Eric, was the true father.
Before Gavin could process the devastating betrayal, the heavy ballroom doors were forced open from the outside.
Eric strode into the room, flanked by two towering bodyguards, looking directly at Brooke with murderous intent.
Behind him marched a dozen uniformed police officers and a pair of grim-faced federal detectives.
The detectives approached Gavin, slapping cold steel handcuffs onto his wrists for federal bank fraud and attempted murder.
Brooke sobbed hysterically as an officer read her Miranda rights, charging her with criminal conspiracy.
My mother tried to quietly slip out the back door, but my security chief easily blocked her path.
The police arrested my mother for the attempted arson and premeditated murder at my house.

I stood silently at the podium, watching my treacherous family being dragged away in disgrace.
The nightmare was finally, completely over.
