Chapter 6 - The Unlikely Ally

I pounded my fists furiously against the impenetrable silver metal, screaming in absolute frustration and terror.

Without Julian's specific fingerprint, the briefcase was essentially a portable vault, keeping the life-saving medicine completely out of my reach.

I picked Ethan up again, deciding my only option was to find an ambulance outside the stadium and beg them to break the case open.

I pushed through the bottom door of the stairwell and ran directly into the stadium's lower VIP corridor.

Suddenly, a sharp hand reached out from the shadows and yanked me violently into a dark, unused utility closet.

I prepared to fight for my life, raising my heavy fist to strike my attacker, but I froze when I saw her face.

It was Evelyn, the ruthless corporate lawyer, and she quickly locked the utility closet door behind us to secure the room.

I demanded to know why she was stopping me, threatening to scream and alert all of Julian's guards to our exact location.

Evelyn put a finger to her lips, surprisingly showing no signs of the cold malice she had displayed in the luxury suite earlier.

She revealed that she secretly despised Julian Vance with every fiber of her being because his ruthless corporate takeovers had completely destroyed her father's company years ago.

She had spent the last five years working her way up the corporate ladder just to find the perfect moment to completely ruin his empire.

Evelyn pulled a highly advanced, illegal biometric bypass tool from her designer purse, designed specifically for corporate espionage.

She attached the small black device to the lock on the silver briefcase and typed rapidly on its glowing digital keypad.

A tense, agonizing silence filled the small closet as the device whirred and processed billions of algorithmic combinations.

Suddenly, a satisfying mechanical click echoed in the small room, signaling that the high-tech lock had been successfully bypassed.

I cried tears of pure relief and thanked Evelyn profusely, eagerly lifting the heavy silver lid of the open briefcase.

My hands reached inside the velvet-lined interior, desperate to grab the glowing blue vial and save my son's life.

My tears of joy instantly turned to tears of absolute, paralyzing horror as I stared into the empty container.

The life-saving blue vial was completely missing, leaving behind nothing but an empty, perfectly shaped foam cutout.
