Chapter 3 - The Broken Family

The suppressed weapons remained perfectly leveled at my husband's chest, leaving absolutely no room for negotiation or escape.

I threw myself in front of David, begging Julian to spare his life and promising I would do whatever it took to save Ethan.

Julian waved his hand dismissively, and the guards slowly lowered their weapons, though their eyes remained locked on their target.

"You are incredibly naive, Sarah, if you think your husband's only crime was a simple baby swap born out of a father's grief," Julian sneered.

He stood up from his velvet chair and began to slowly pace the room, recounting a story that made my blood run entirely cold.

Julian revealed that five years ago, David had discovered Julian's true identity and began secretly extorting him for massive amounts of cash.

My husband had used the threat of exposing the hospital's massive security failure to siphon hundreds of thousands of dollars from Vance Pharmaceuticals.

I turned to David in absolute shock, praying that he would vehemently deny these disgusting allegations.

David could not meet my gaze, quietly confessing that he had used the extortion money to secretly pay off Ethan's early medical bills.

He swore he only did it to keep our family afloat, but the mountain of lies between us was suddenly too massive to overcome.

Evelyn handed Julian a fresh, perfectly printed copy of the surrender contract, completely unaffected by the emotional destruction unfolding in the room.

Julian coldly ordered his guards to drag David out of the suite and hand him over to the corrupt local police waiting in the stadium basement.

David fought fiercely, screaming my name and begging for forgiveness as the massive men dragged him violently through the heavy doors.

I was left completely alone with the ruthless billionaire, his calculating lawyer, and my dying, unconscious son.

Suddenly, Ethan's small body convulsed violently on the leather sofa, and he began coughing up dark speckles of blood.

I dropped to my knees beside him, sobbing hysterically and begging Julian to open the silver briefcase to save his life.

Julian calmly placed the briefcase on the glass table, resting his hand firmly over the biometric fingerprint scanner.

He looked down at me with a gaze as hard and unforgiving as solid diamond.

"The briefcase does not open, and the medicine does not flow, until your signature is perfectly legible on the dotted line."

I grabbed the gold pen with shaking fingers, fully prepared to sell my soul to the devil just to keep my child breathing.
