Chương 4 - The First Dance

Maya dug her fingernails sharply into Mason's forearm.

"Don't look now," she whispered through a gritted smile.

"There is a waiter at your three o'clock reaching for a gun."

Mason did not flinch, turn his head, or break his charming facade.

He guided her across the floor with terrifying grace, keeping his body positioned between her and the waiter.

Over Maya's shoulder, Mason gave a nearly imperceptible nod to one of his men standing by the exit.

Within three seconds, the waiter vanished from the room, dragged quietly into the kitchen hallway by two massive guards.

Maya let out a shaky breath, her forehead resting against Mason's chest.

"Is he dead?" she asked, her voice trembling.

The cold night air hit Maya's flushed skin.

"Who are these people trying to kill you?" she demanded, finally letting her anger mask her fear.

"I thought you were just an investor!"

Mason leaned against the stone railing, pulling out a silver lighter and a cigarette.

"They aren't here for me, Maya."

She blinked in confusion.

"What?"

"My men just searched that waiter."

Mason lit his cigarette, the flame illuminating his sharp jawline.
