Chapter 9 - The Right Hand

Elena’s transition from housekeeper to executive was nothing short of spectacular.
She didn't just survive in the ruthless corporate world; she dominated it. She had a keen eye for detail, a terrifying work ethic, and an absolute intolerance for bullshit. The executives who initially doubted her quickly learned that crossing Elena was a fatal mistake.
Over the next year, we worked side by side. We traveled to Tokyo, London, and Dubai, expanding the company’s reach, repairing the damage Robert and Marcus had done.
But something else was happening between us.
Without the barrier of employer and servant, I began to see Elena for the incredible woman she truly was. She was brilliant, funny, and deeply compassionate. And I realized that the respect and loyalty I felt for her had blossomed into something much deeper.
One night, after closing a massive merger in New York, we were sitting on the balcony of my penthouse, looking out over the city skyline.
“You know,” Elena said, sipping her wine. “A year ago, I was bringing you soup and pretending not to notice when you flexed your calf muscles.”
I laughed. “You noticed that?”
“I noticed everything about you, Julian.”
The air shifted. I looked at her, bathed in the soft glow of the city lights, and I realized I didn't want to spend another day of my life without her by my side. Not just in a boardroom, but everywhere.
I reached across the table and took her hand. She didn't pull away.
“I was broken before the accident, Elena,” I confessed softly. “I was surrounded by fake friends, a fake fiancée, and a fake life. You were the only real thing I had. You saved me.”

Elena smiled, her fingers lacing through mine. “We saved each other.”
I leaned in and kissed her. It wasn't the cold, calculated kisses I had shared with Chloe. It was warm, real, and undeniable.
