Chapter 2 - The Billionaire's Daughter

The silence in the dining room was absolute and suffocating.

A pin could have dropped on the hardwood floor and sounded like a gunshot.

Ethan’s face drained of all color until he looked as pale as a ghost.

Diane Mercer dropped her expensive wineglass, letting the dark red liquid shatter and stain the antique rug.

Vanessa froze in her seat with a polite, confused smile still plastered awkwardly on her face.

Jonathan Vale stood perfectly still in the kitchen doorway, radiating pure, lethal authority.

He slowly asked Ethan to repeat exactly what he had told Hannah to do tonight.

Ethan stammered uncontrollably, frantically claiming it was just a terrible, innocent misunderstanding.

He aggressively swore that he had absolutely no idea Hannah was a member of the Vale family.

Jonathan sneered and stated that was exactly the root of the problem.

He explained in a dangerously quiet voice that a man who only treats his wife well when she is rich is no man at all.

Vanessa tried to intervene, quickly adjusting her red dress and introducing herself to the billionaire with a flirtatious tone.

Jonathan did not even bother to look at her as he coldly told her to get out of his daughter's chair.

Vanessa shrunk back into the cushions, completely humiliated in front of the entire Mercer family.

Hannah finally picked up her purse and walked out of the kitchen with her head held high.

She looked Ethan directly in the eye and told him she was packing her bags to leave him tonight.

Ethan fell to his knees right in the middle of the dining room, desperately grabbing at the hem of her coat.

He cried hysterically that if Jonathan pulled the upcoming construction contract, the company would instantly go bankrupt.

Hannah looked down at the pathetic man she had loved for seven years with absolute disgust.

She calmly told him that his failing business was no longer her problem.

Ethan looked up at her with wild, terrified eyes as tears streamed down his face.

He whispered that it actually was her problem, because he had secretly forged her signature to secure the multimillion-dollar collateral loan.
