Chapter 5 - The Desperate Escape

The Chief Financial Officer, a ruthless man named David, smiled coldly as he kept his weapon pressed firmly against the agent's temple.
He mockingly praised my incredible foresight in keeping physical backup drives, but gloated that his surveillance team had followed me here months ago.
I stared at the empty safe, realizing that David had already destroyed the only remaining evidence that could completely exonerate me.
David casually ordered me to step away from the safe and place my hands clearly on the top of my head.
He explained that he was going to kill the federal agent and leave my fingerprints all over the murder weapon to ensure I took the fall for everything.
The federal agent subtly shifted his weight, his highly trained eyes locking onto mine with a silent, desperate command.
I instantly understood his unspoken tactical signal and violently kicked a heavy stack of empty cardboard boxes directly at David's legs.
The sudden distraction provided the agent with the exact fraction of a second he needed to execute a flawless disarm maneuver.
He grabbed David's wrist and twisted it aggressively, forcing the suppressed pistol to fire wildly into the concrete ceiling.
I did not wait to watch the rest of the brutal physical struggle unfold in the dusty storage corridor.
I sprinted frantically down the long, narrow aisle of orange metal doors, my expensive heels echoing loudly on the concrete floor.
I burst through the emergency exit doors and ran blindly into the freezing, pouring rain of the desolate industrial park.
I knew I could not return to my house, my bank accounts were entirely frozen, and my only trusted ally was presumed dead.
I had to completely disappear into the dark underbelly of the city to formulate a new plan to destroy Gael's empire.
I walked for hours through the dangerous, rain-soaked streets until I reached a cheap, unmonitored motel on the wrong side of town.
I used the emergency cash hidden securely in the lining of my designer handbag to rent a dingy room for the night.
I locked the flimsy wooden door, pulled the faded curtains shut, and collapsed onto the sagging mattress in total exhaustion.
I spent the entire night meticulously mapping out the complex logistical network of Gael's massive shipping company on a stolen notepad.
I realized that if they had successfully stolen fifty million dollars, they needed a physical way to move the laundered cash out of the country.
Gael's primary shipping warehouse at the city docks was the only logical location capable of smuggling that amount of physical currency.
I knew I had to break into that heavily guarded warehouse tomorrow night to find the hidden shipping manifests.

I finally closed my eyes to get a few hours of desperate rest before undertaking the most dangerous mission of my life.
I was violently awakened by the terrifying sound of the motel room door being kicked completely off its rusted hinges.
