Chapter 2 - The Digital Frame

My hands gripped the leather steering wheel so tightly that my knuckles turned completely white.

I demanded that my attorney explain how fifty million dollars could possibly be moved without my dual-authorization signature.

He explained that the bank records showed my exact digital signature and biometric approval had been used just ten minutes ago.

I realized with a sickening jolt that Gael had not just been cheating on me with his secretary.

He had been meticulously orchestrating a massive corporate embezzlement scheme and setting me up to take the absolute fall.

The entire clinic encounter suddenly felt like a perfectly timed distraction designed to keep me away from my secure computer terminal.

I slammed my foot on the accelerator and sped out of the clinic parking lot, heading straight for the logistics company headquarters.

I needed to access the main server room to trace the offshore routing numbers before the money disappeared completely.

I navigated the busy city traffic with reckless desperation, knowing that federal investigators would be alerted to a transfer of that magnitude within hours.

If I could not prove that my digital credentials had been stolen, I would be facing decades in a federal penitentiary.

I finally reached the towering glass office building and used my secure access badge to bypass the front security desk.

I ignored the confused stares of the employees and marched directly toward the executive server room on the top floor.

I swiped my badge at the reinforced steel door, but the electronic scanner flashed a bright, angry red.

The digital readout on the security panel stated that my executive clearance had been permanently revoked.

I heard the distinct sound of slow, mocking applause echoing from the end of the executive hallway.

I turned around to see Gael walking toward me, looking completely composed and dangerously smug.

He smirked and told me that he had known about my little secret investigation for the past three weeks.

He revealed that Monica's pregnancy was indeed real, but the baby belonged to the company's corrupt Chief Financial Officer.

Gael had knowingly used their scandalous affair to blind me while they worked together to steal the company's liquid assets.

Before I could even respond to his terrifying confession, the elevator doors chimed loudly behind him.

Six heavily armed federal agents stepped out of the elevator, pointing their weapons directly at my chest and ordering me to surrender.
