Chapter 3 - The Uninvited Guests

I rushed toward Rosa and helped her stand up from the marble floor.
"Who is coming up the driveway?" I asked, grabbing her shaking shoulders.
"Men in black suits, they just broke through the main security gate," Rosa cried out.
Daniel immediately stepped in front of us, shielding us with his body.
Vanessa’s arrogant smirk completely evaporated, replaced by genuine, unadulterated fear.
She spun around, looking frantically for a place to hide.
"We have to call the police," Daniel said, pulling his phone from his pocket.
Vanessa slapped the phone out of his hand before he could even dial the numbers.
"No police!" she shrieked, her voice cracking with panic.
"If the police come, I am a dead woman."
The sound of heavy tires screeching on the gravel driveway echoed through the open doors.
Three dark SUVs slammed to a halt right in front of the mansion's portico.
I pulled Rosa behind me and stared out the door as five large men stepped out of the vehicles.
They wore expensive tailored suits, but their rough faces told a completely different story.
The leader of the group was a tall man with a silver scar slicing across his jawline.
He walked up the front steps slowly, completely unbothered by the fact that he was trespassing on private property.
"Well, well, well, if it isn't my runaway bride," the scarred man said, his voice deep and menacing.
Daniel stood his ground, though I could see his fists trembling.
"Get off my property right now, or I will use force," Daniel warned.
The scarred man laughed, pulling a heavy silver pistol from his jacket and aiming it directly at my son's chest.
"You must be the new fiancé," the man sneered.
Vanessa shrank back against the staircase railing, shaking like a leaf.
"Victor, please, I can explain everything," she begged.
I looked at the woman who had just poured dirty water on me, finally understanding the depth of her deception.
"Who is this man, Vanessa?" I demanded.
Victor answered before she could speak.
"I am her legal husband, lady, and she owes my employer a lot of money."
Daniel looked at Vanessa in absolute shock, realizing his entire relationship was a lie.
"You are already married?" Daniel whispered, the heartbreak evident in his voice.
Victor stepped into the foyer and signaled for his men to follow him inside.
"She married me to steal two million dollars from our syndicate, and we are here to collect," Victor announced.

He pointed the gun toward my head, pulling the hammer back with a sharp click.
"So, which one of you wealthy fools is going to open the safe?"
