Chapter 8 - The Hostage Protocol

I was violently shoved into the backseat of the dark sedan, the doors locking automatically with a heavy, metallic thud.

Marcus slid into the passenger seat, ignoring my furious glares as the driver sped away from the burning mansion.

My mind raced through every possible survival scenario, analyzing the tactical disadvantages of my current situation.

I knew that if I successfully transferred the trust funds into Marcus’s accounts, I would instantly become a useless, disposable liability.

I had to convince him that my prolonged survival was absolutely essential to his massive financial takeover.

I leaned forward against the wire mesh partition and told Marcus that transferring the funds was completely impossible without my physical presence at the bank.

I lied with absolute conviction, claiming that the trust required dual-factor biometric authentication from the primary spouse for any transaction over one million dollars.

Marcus turned around, his dark eyes narrowing as he tried to determine if I was bluffing to save my own life.

I confidently doubled down, stating that if he killed me or Daniel, the accounts would automatically freeze in a permanent probate lockdown.

He stared at me for a long, terrifying moment before a slow, menacing smile crept across his scarred face.

He ordered the driver to change course, directing him toward an abandoned industrial warehouse district on the edge of the city.

The sedan pulled into a dark, cavernous garage, surrounded by dozens of armed syndicate members.

I was roughly escorted into a windowless concrete room equipped with a single metal chair and a high-end computer terminal.

Marcus pointed to the glowing screen and told me I had exactly one hour to bypass the security protocols and prepare the transfer.

He warned me that if the money was not ready by dawn, he would torture Eleanor until I found a workaround.

He locked the heavy steel door from the outside, leaving me completely alone in the freezing room.

I sat down at the computer, taking a deep, shuddering breath to steady my trembling hands.

Marcus thought he had trapped me, but he had actually just given a master forensic accountant unrestricted access to a terminal with internet connectivity.

I did not log into the Whitmore family trust accounts to prepare his stolen funds.

Instead, I rapidly accessed the highly secure, encrypted server of the FBI's financial crimes division.

I had secretly memorized the direct backdoor routing numbers during my previous career in federal auditing.

I initiated a massive, automated data dump, sending every single piece of evidence regarding Daniel’s fraud, the forged will, and Marcus’s syndicate network directly to the authorities.

I attached a geographic ping to the data packets, broadcasting my exact location to every federal agent within a fifty-mile radius.

Suddenly, the computer screen flickered violently and went completely black.

Marcus kicked the steel door open, holding a suppressed pistol aimed directly at my head.

He told me that his hackers had just detected my outgoing distress signal.
