Chapter 7 - The Interrogation of Fools

The heavy gunfire outside briefly paused as the mercenaries regrouped for a second, massive assault.

Silas stared down at the bleeding mercenary, processing the horrifying implication of his words.

"A mole inside the family," Arthur muttered, his sharp mind racing through every executive and cousin in the Vance dynasty.

I held Lily tighter, realizing that escaping this house wouldn't make us safe if the enemy was already inside our inner circle.

Marcus ordered two of his operators to drag Julian and Serena over to our defensive position behind the kitchen island.

Julian was fully conscious now, his face pale and sweaty as he listened to the bullets whizzing past his expensive house.

"You arrogant fool," Silas snarled, grabbing Julian by his ruined, expensive shirt.

"You deliberately abused my niece today because you knew Nora would finally call us to this exact location, didn't you?"

Julian trembled violently, looking around at the destruction he had invited into his life.

"They promised me fifty million dollars and a new identity if I got the Vance brothers in one room," Julian sobbed pathetically.

"I didn't know they were going to kill everyone!"

Serena kicked Julian in the shin, her hands still bound tightly behind her back.

"You are an absolute idiot, Julian," Serena spat with pure venom.

"The syndicate never intended to pay you a single dime; you were always a disposable asset."

Nathaniel, the federal judge, stepped forward and looked down at Serena with cold, calculating eyes.

"You are an intelligence agent, Natasha," Nathaniel stated.

"Give me the name of the mole inside our family, and I will personally guarantee your placement in federal witness protection."

Serena laughed bitterly, blood trickling from a small cut on her cheek.

"Witness protection can't hide me from the man who ordered this hit," Serena replied.

"He controls half the politicians in this city, and he knows everything about the Vance empire."

"Give me the name!" Silas roared, losing the last shred of his patience.

Before Serena could open her mouth to speak, a high-caliber sniper bullet shattered the remaining glass of the kitchen window.

The bullet struck Serena directly in the chest, silencing her permanently before she could reveal the traitor's identity.

She collapsed onto the floor, her lifeless eyes staring blankly at the ceiling.

Julian screamed in pure horror, crawling backward until his back hit the kitchen cabinets.

"They are executing loose ends!" Marcus shouted, pulling Silas down into cover.

"The second wave is advancing on the house, and they are bringing heavy breaching explosives!"

Leo looked up from his tablet, his screen flashing with critical red warning notifications.

"Marcus, they just planted C4 charges on all four structural pillars of the house," Leo announced urgently.

"They aren't trying to capture us anymore; they are going to bring the entire roof down on our heads."
