Chapter 5 - The Silent Alarm

The piercing electronic beep from Julian's watch finally stopped, leaving a heavy, suffocating silence in the ruined house.
"He sold us out," Silas whispered, his fists clenching tightly at his sides.
"Julian knew they were hunting us, and he used his own family as bait to secure a payday."
Arthur immediately shifted from a furious brother into a calculating billionaire CEO.
"Marcus, how much time do we have before the syndicate's strike team arrives?" Arthur asked.
Marcus was already tapping his earpiece, communicating with the perimeter guards outside.
"They were likely staging a few miles away, waiting for Serena to confirm the target," Marcus analyzed rapidly.
"We have less than three minutes to fortify this position."
I held Lily tightly against my chest, feeling her tiny heart hammering against my own ribs.
"We need to get her out of here right now," I pleaded to my brothers.
"The airspace is already compromised," Marcus replied grimly.
"My radar operators are tracking three unidentified tactical helicopters approaching fast from the south."
"If we try to fly out now, they will shoot our transport out of the sky."
Silas drew two massive handguns from his shoulder holsters and chambered the rounds with a loud, metallic click.
"Then we hold the ground and we make them bleed for every inch," Silas declared.
The tactical operators immediately began overturning heavy mahogany furniture to create defensive barricades.
They dragged Julian and Serena into the center of the living room, throwing them roughly onto the floor.
"Move to the basement panic room," Marcus ordered me, pointing toward the kitchen hallway.
"The reinforced steel will protect you and Lily from the initial breach."
I nodded, wrapping my coat tightly around my daughter, and began running toward the kitchen.
Suddenly, all the lights in the massive estate flickered and completely died.
The emergency backup generators failed to kick on, leaving us in absolute, pitch-black darkness.
"They just cut the main power grid and jammed our comms," Leo shouted over the rising chaos.
Outside the shattered front doors, the terrifying sound of heavy diesel engines roared up the long driveway.
Bright, blinding spotlights pierced through the broken windows, casting long, eerie shadows across the living room walls.
Dozens of laser sights danced wildly across the ceiling as the syndicate mercenaries surrounded the house.
A loud, mechanically amplified voice boomed from a megaphone outside.
"Send out the Vance heiress and the child, and we will let the rest of you live!" the voice demanded.
Arthur stood behind a heavy marble pillar, his eyes burning with absolute defiance.
May you like
"Vance blood does not surrender!" Arthur roared back into the darkness.
Immediately, a hail of heavy machine-gun fire shattered every remaining window in the estate.
