Chapter 10 - The Vance Legacy

The tactical operators dragged a laughing Julian out of the woods and loaded him into a secure transport vehicle.
We successfully met the extraction helicopters a mile away from the burning ruins of the estate.
Serena's body was recovered by federal agents, and her true identity was buried deeply in classified files.
Julian was officially erased from the public record, quietly transferred to a maximum-security black site where he would never hurt anyone again.
We flew through the dark night and landed safely at the Vance family's ultra-secure private island compound.
The massive fortress was surrounded by ocean and guarded by a private army of loyal, heavily vetted soldiers.
I carried an exhausted, sleeping Lily into the grand medical bay, where the best doctors in the world gently treated her back.
When she finally woke up, she was surrounded by plates of warm cookies, mountains of new toys, and five uncles who treated her like absolute royalty.
"Is the bad man gone forever, Mommy?" Lily asked, holding a new stuffed bear tightly.
"He is gone forever, sweetheart," I promised, kissing her forehead.
"You are safe now, and nobody will ever make us feel afraid again."
I walked out to the grand balcony overlooking the ocean, breathing in the fresh, salty air.
My five brothers joined me, standing shoulder to shoulder as we watched the sun rise over the horizon.
Arthur placed a comforting hand on my shoulder, welcoming me back to the empire I had run away from.
I had finally accepted my true identity, reclaimed my vast wealth, and secured absolute peace for my daughter.
The nightmare of Julian's cruelty was definitively over, and our perfect life had officially begun.
Later that evening, I walked into Lily's massive new bedroom to unpack the few belongings we had salvaged.
I pulled her favorite pink backpack from the duffel bag and unzipped the front pocket.
But as I reached inside, a small, unfamiliar black velvet box slipped out and fell onto the pristine carpet.

I carefully opened the velvet box to find my late father’s heavy, silver signet ring resting beside a folded, typewritten note.
The chilling note read: "Julian was a wonderful distraction, my sweet daughter, and I will see you very soon."
