Chapter 8 - The Secret Recording

My mother began pouring strong-smelling gasoline all over her expensive bedroom furniture.

She was intentionally destroying her own house to burn any remaining evidence of her massive crimes.

I quietly pulled my cell phone from my pocket and activated the video recording feature.

I slowly pushed the closet door open just enough to capture her face in the frame.

"You really thought you could burn the truth, Mom?" I asked softly, stepping out of the shadows.

Linda screamed in terror and dropped the heavy gasoline can onto the soaked carpet.

"Ethan, you are supposed to be in police custody!" she stammered, backing away toward the window.

I held up the leather ledger and the recording cell phone for her to see clearly.

"I know about Emily's secret trust fund, and I know Arthur paid you to poison her," I stated firmly.

My mother's panicked expression quickly faded into a cold, calculating glare.

"Emily never deserved that money, Ethan, she was ungrateful and weak," my mother spat venomously.

"I poisoned her because Arthur promised me two million dollars if I helped him secure the boy."

I made sure the camera captured every single word of her horrific, remorseless confession.

"You sold your own grandson to a monster for money," I whispered in total disgust.

Linda smiled wickedly and pulled a small silver revolver from her purse.

"I did what I had to do to survive, and now I have to kill you too."

Before she could raise the weapon, a massive black SUV smashed directly through the front living room window downstairs.

The entire house shook violently from the devastating impact.

Arthur Vance marched up the stairs accompanied by four heavily armed tactical mercenaries.

Arthur looked at my mother with absolute contempt and profound disgust.

"You are a very sloppy woman, Linda," Arthur said smoothly.

He motioned to his men, who instantly ripped the silver revolver right out of her trembling hand.

Arthur turned his cold blue eyes toward me and smiled triumphantly.

"Give me the ledger, Ethan, and I might let you live long enough to attend your wife's funeral."

I pressed the send button on my phone, instantly live-streaming the entire video directly to Detective Miller's personal email.
