Chapter 6 - The Cyber Virus

I violently shoved Ashley to the floor just as a suppressed gunshot shattered the motel window.

The bullet buried itself deeply into the drywall exactly where her heart had been a second ago.

I grabbed the USB drive from her hand and dragged her toward the bathroom for cover.

"We have to get this evidence to Detective Miller right now," I told her urgently.

We crawled through the small bathroom window and escaped into the dark alley behind the motel.

I drove like a madman back to the police precinct, constantly checking my rearview mirror for assassins.

We burst through the front doors of the station, screaming for Detective Miller.

Miller rushed out of his office, shocked to see my battered sister bleeding on his floor.

"Arthur Vance paid them to poison Emily, and all the proof is right here!" I yelled, slamming the USB drive onto his desk.

The detective quickly plugged the small black device into his main police computer.

We all gathered around the monitor, waiting to hear the damning audio files.

Instead, the computer screen suddenly flickered and turned entirely bright red.

A digital skull appeared on the screen, laughing mechanically through the computer speakers.

"What the hell is this?" Detective Miller shouted, frantically pressing buttons on his keyboard.

Within seconds, the entire police database began deleting files at a terrifying speed.

The USB drive was not a collection of audio files.

It was a highly sophisticated cyber virus designed to completely wipe out the precinct's criminal records.

Detective Miller pulled his service weapon and aimed it directly at my chest.

"You just launched a massive cyber attack against a federal law enforcement database!" Miller roared.

I looked at Ashley in absolute horror and utter disbelief.

She wiped the fake tears from her eyes and smiled wickedly at me.

"Arthur sends his regards, big brother," Ashley sneered.

She had intentionally lured me into a trap to frame me for domestic cyber terrorism.

The precinct lockdown alarms began to blare loudly throughout the entire building.

I realized I was about to be locked in a federal prison for the rest of my life.

I grabbed a heavy fire extinguisher from the wall and hurled it directly at the large glass window.
