Chapter 7 - The Hospital Race

I shoved Harper into the passenger seat of the truck and aggressively hit the gas.

The engine roared as we tore out of the airfield and headed back toward the city.

I ignored every red light and stop sign on the dark suburban roads.

My mind raced to figure out where the real data drive could possibly be hidden.

Harper was sobbing hysterically, swearing she had placed the drive directly in the briefcase.

I realized that Violet must have found it while searching for her early birthday presents.

I arrived at the hospital and sprinted through the automatic emergency room doors.

I ignored the shouting security guards and ran up the stairs to the ICU floor.

I burst into Violet's room just as the fake doctor was pushing the syringe toward her IV line.

I tackled the assassin to the linoleum floor with bone-crushing force.

He was highly trained and instantly drew a combat knife from his waistband.

He slashed at my throat, but I deflected his arm and delivered a brutal strike to his knee.

The bone snapped loudly, and the assassin screamed in absolute agony.

I secured him in a chokehold until he lost consciousness.

I checked Violet's monitors to make sure she was still completely stable.

Her heart rate was steady, and she was entirely unharmed.

I pulled the assassin's earpiece out and put it into my own ear.

Vance asked over the encrypted radio channel if the job was finally done.

I told Vance that his man was broken on the floor.

Vance laughed, a cold and hollow sound that echoed deeply in my ear.

He said I always was a highly effective fighter.

He noted that I could not simply punch a bomb to disarm it.

He told me he had planted C4 explosives in the hospital's main oxygen supply room.

He gave me exactly ten minutes to bring the drive to the basement, or the entire hospital would burn.
