Chapter 6 - The Airport Ambush

The explosive charges blew the jet's landing gear completely off the aircraft.
The cabin violently pitched sideways, throwing me against the reinforced window.
Vance used the chaotic moment to grab the silver briefcase from Harper's hands.
He kicked open the emergency exit door and slid down the slanted wing to the tarmac.
I struggled to my feet as the jet's engine began to catch fire.
I grabbed Harper by her coat and dragged her out of the burning aircraft.
We hit the cold concrete just as the jet's fuel lines ignited in a massive fireball.
The shockwave knocked us both flat on our backs.
I looked up and saw Vance climbing securely into an armored SUV.
He did not even look back as his driver sped away into the darkness.
I pulled Harper to her feet and shoved her toward my battered truck.
I was furiously angry with her, but I could not leave her to die.
As we approached the truck, I noticed a tactical laptop resting on the hood of a destroyed mercenary van.
The screen was glowing brightly in the dark night.
I picked it up and saw a live surveillance feed broadcasting to the computer.
The video showed the intensive care unit at the local hospital.
I saw Violet lying perfectly still in her hospital bed with tubes connected to her arms.
A man dressed securely in doctor's scrubs walked into her quiet room.
He reached into his pocket and pulled out a long, terrifying syringe.
The live chat box on the screen blinked with a new message from Vance.
He typed that the silver briefcase was completely empty.

He told me I had exactly twenty minutes to bring him the real drive.
He threatened that my daughter would die in her sleep if I failed.
