Chapter 8 - The Betrayal

Julian pushed past a terrified waitress and crashed through the swinging kitchen doors.

The private security contractors immediately sprinted after him, their heavy boots thudding loudly on the tile floor.

I stood up, grabbing my canvas bag, and followed Mr. Vance out the front door of the diner.

The street was completely blocked by multiple flashing police cruisers.

Two officers were already dragging a handcuffed, struggling Julian out from the back alley.

“This is a massive misunderstanding!” Julian screamed frantically as they shoved him against a police car.

“My wife is a completely delusional woman trying to steal my rightful inheritance!”

I walked up to him, feeling a massive, crushing weight finally lift off my exhausted shoulders.

“You abandoned your dying mother for a woman who was actively trying to destroy you,” I told him calmly.

Julian stopped struggling and stared at me in pure, unadulterated confusion.

“What are you talking about?” Julian demanded, his voice breaking with panic.

I pulled out my phone and played the audio recording of the conversation I had with Chloe.

Julian listened in absolute horror as his beautiful mistress admitted they were biological siblings.

He heard her confess that she was only using him to locate the hidden criminal fortune.

Julian fell to his knees on the wet pavement, completely broken by the ultimate betrayal.

“She said she loved me,” Julian whispered, staring blankly at the dark sky.

“She loved the fifty million dollars, Julian, and you were just the convenient idiot who gave her access,” I replied coldly.

The police officers pulled Julian to his feet and shoved him roughly into the back of the cruiser.

I turned to Mr. Vance, handing him the canvas bag containing the birth certificate and the flash drive.

“We need to freeze the offshore accounts immediately before Chloe can access them,” I instructed the lawyer.

Mr. Vance smiled warmly and opened his briefcase to secure the valuable evidence.

“I already took the liberty of initiating a total lockdown on the estate’s financial network,” Mr. Vance assured me.

“Chloe’s armed men were arrested outside the vault facility twenty minutes ago by federal agents.”

The entire corrupt network that threatened to destroy my life was systematically collapsing in a single night.

I finally felt truly safe for the first time since my phone rang in that cold hospital room.

“You are a very wealthy and powerful woman now, Sarah,” Mr. Vance said, closing his leather briefcase.

“We should head to my secure office to finalize the legal transfer of the empire.”

I nodded in agreement and walked toward his waiting luxury sedan.

As I reached for the door handle, a sleek black motorcycle sped dangerously close to the curb.

The rider wore a dark helmet and raised a suppressed pistol directly at my chest.
