Chapter 7 - The Confrontation

Julian slid into the booth across from me, blocking my only way out of the diner.
He looked absolutely exhausted, desperate, and entirely dangerous.
“You made a massive mistake stealing from me, Sarah,” Julian hissed, leaning heavily over the table.
I stared at him, feeling absolutely no fear, only a deep, profound disgust.
“Your mother died tonight while you were drinking champagne with your mistress,” I said coldly.
Julian flinched slightly, a brief flash of genuine guilt crossing his arrogant face.
He quickly masked the emotion with a cruel, dismissive sneer.
“Eleanor was a cold, controlling woman who never truly loved me,” Julian fired back.
“She owed me that money for putting up with her miserable existence for all these years.”
I laughed, a harsh, bitter sound that completely unsettled my cheating husband.
“You are absolutely right about one thing, Julian,” I replied, pulling the birth certificate from my bag.
“She never truly loved you because you are not actually her son.”
I slid the certified document across the sticky diner table.
Julian snatched the paper and read the names listed under his biological parents.
His face turned completely pale as he realized his entire life was a carefully constructed lie.
“This is a blatant forgery,” Julian panicked, dropping the paper as if it burned his fingers.
“It is completely real, and it proves you have absolutely no legal right to her estate,” I countered.
“The fifty million dollars belongs exclusively to me, and you are going to get absolutely nothing.”
Julian’s shock rapidly morphed into a violent, unpredictable fury.
He reached across the table and violently grabbed my wrist, knocking my hot coffee onto the floor.
“Give me the flash drive right now, or I will drag you out into the alley and take it,” Julian threatened loudly.
Several patrons in the diner turned to look at us, murmuring in concerned whispers.
“Let go of her arm immediately, Julian.”
We both turned our heads toward the calm, authoritative voice behind us.
Mr. Vance was standing near the booth, flanked by two massive, heavily armed private security contractors.
Julian immediately released my wrist and shrunk back into the vinyl booth.
“You brought your attack dogs to a simple divorce negotiation, Sarah?” Julian mocked nervously.
Mr. Vance ignored Julian completely and looked directly at me.
“I contacted the federal authorities regarding the massive embezzlement we discussed,” Mr. Vance announced loudly.

“The police are waiting outside to arrest him for fraud.”
Julian cursed violently, jumped out of the booth, and sprinted frantically toward the diner’s back kitchen exit.
