Chapter 9 - The Counterattack

I shielded my eyes from the blinding spotlight as the maritime police boats closed in.
The ship's security officers rushed onto the deck and grabbed my arms without any explanation.
They dragged me down to the main lobby where heavily armed federal agents were waiting.
The lead agent showed me a search warrant signed by an international criminal court.
He claimed an anonymous tip reported I was smuggling stolen cultural artifacts inside my luggage.
I laughed in absolute disbelief because the accusation was completely absurd.
I told them to search my cabin immediately because I had absolutely nothing to hide.
The agents marched me to my room and began tearing through my belongings.
They emptied my suitcase, ripped the mattress, and examined every inch of the small space.
They found nothing but three dresses, sandals, and my legal folders.
The lead agent looked confused and checked his digital tablet again.
Arthur rushed into the room, flanked by the ship's captain and his legal team.
Arthur calmly explained to the federal agent that the anonymous tip was a malicious prank.
He handed the agent a trace report generated by his private security firm.
The report proved that the anonymous tip had originated from an IP address in the exact non-extradition country where Chloe was hiding.
It was her final, desperate attempt to ruin my vacation and get me locked up in a foreign port.
The federal agent realized his department had been completely manipulated by a fugitive.
He apologized profusely to me and ordered his team to stand down immediately.
The captain of the ship offered me a complimentary upgrade to the grand penthouse suite to apologize for the extreme inconvenience.
I accepted the upgrade with a gracious smile.
I spent the next three months traveling the world in absolute luxury.
I drank fine wine in Italy, explored the ancient ruins in Greece, and watched the northern lights in Norway.
Back in the United States, Austin was officially sentenced to twenty years in federal prison for conspiracy and fraud.
My lawyers successfully sold the family house for a massive profit.
They safely deposited the funds into a heavily encrypted account that nobody else could ever touch.
I was finally completely untouchable.

I decided it was time to establish a permanent new life far away from the painful memories of my past.
I purchased a breathtaking beachfront villa on a quiet, remote island.
