Chapter 9 - The Hidden Clause

The nurse handed the thick manila envelope to Olivia, stating it had been dropped off by a private courier.

Olivia frowned, her heart fluttering with a sudden, lingering anxiety.

She tore the seal open and pulled out a stack of heavily redacted legal documents.

Alexander leaned over her shoulder, his eyes scanning the complex legal jargon with growing concern.

The documents were from the United States Department of Defense, dated over three years ago.

It was a highly classified contract signed by Liam Hayes, completely bypassing the board of directors.

"What does this mean?" Olivia asked, tracing her finger over Liam's messy signature.

Alexander's jaw tightened as he realized the true magnitude of what they were looking at.

"Liam didn't just take a loan from the cartel," Alexander explained, his voice grim.

"He sold a backdoor access point of your algorithm directly to the military."

The contract clearly stated that if Hayes Vision ever went bankrupt or changed ownership, the government had the right to seize all intellectual property.

That meant the source code Olivia had so fiercely protected did not belong to her anymore.

It belonged to the federal government, and they were legally coming to collect it.

"He knew this the entire time," Olivia whispered, a cold wave of realization washing over her.

"Liam knew the code was worthless to the cartel because the military already owned the primary rights."

He had played everyone, perfectly orchestrating a massive conflict to hide his treasonous deal.

Alexander quickly pulled out his phone, dialing his top team of corporate lawyers.

He instructed them to file an immediate emergency injunction to block the government seizure.

"They will drag this out in federal court for a decade," Alexander warned her gently.

"The government does not surrender technology once they have their hands on it."

Olivia looked down at her swollen belly, feeling the twins kick strongly against her hand.

She had fought too hard and survived too much to let Liam's ghost destroy her future.

"They cannot seize what no longer exists," Olivia stated, a brilliant, dangerous idea forming in her mind.

She reminded Alexander that she had executed a total system wipe while in the forest.

The only remaining copy of the complete algorithm was securely locked away inside her own brain.

"If the military wants the code, they will have to hire me as an independent contractor to rewrite it," she declared.

"I will name my own price, and I will maintain full creative control over how it is used."

Alexander stared at her in absolute awe, deeply impressed by her fearless brilliance.

She was not just surviving the game anymore; she was completely rewriting the rules.

They spent the next week aggressively negotiating with the Pentagon from the safety of the hospital suite.

Faced with the total loss of a revolutionary technology, the military brass finally caved to her demands.
