Chapter 7 - The Ransom Demand

Daniel stared at the ringing phone, knowing exactly who was on the other end of the line.
He picked it up and pressed the green button, holding the phone tightly to his ear.
"Hello, Daniel," Silas said, his voice dripping with arrogant amusement.
"If you have hurt my wife, I will slowly peel the skin from your bones," Daniel promised with terrifying calm.
Silas chuckled softly, completely unfazed by the deadly threat.
"Eleanor is perfectly fine for now, but her survival depends entirely on your next move," Silas replied.
"What do you want?" Daniel demanded, staring at the bloody wedding ring.
"I want the master ledger that Sarah’s little brat gave you," Silas stated clearly.
Silas demanded that Daniel publicly surrender all of his territories and step down from the syndicate tonight.
"Bring the ledger to the abandoned steel mill at midnight, and come completely alone," Silas ordered.
"If I see a single one of your men, I will send Eleanor back to you in multiple garbage bags."
The line went dead before Daniel could say another word.
Daniel pocketed the bloody ring, his mind calculating every possible angle of attack.
He drove back to the subterranean safehouse to retrieve the ledger and prepare his weapons.
He unlocked the heavy steel blast doors and stepped into the underground bunker.
The lights were completely shattered, plunging the room into absolute darkness.
Daniel pulled out his flashlight and swept the beam across the floor.
His most loyal bodyguard, Marcus, was lying in a massive pool of blood with a bullet hole in his chest.
Daniel sprinted through the dark rooms, screaming his son's name in pure panic.
