Chapter 10 - The Ultimate Betrayal

Daniel rushed up the metal stairs with terrifying speed to reach the elevated catwalk.
He ripped the heavy tape from Eleanor’s mouth and quickly untied the thick ropes binding her wrists.
He pulled his wife into a desperate hug before turning to wrap his arms around his sobbing son.
The immediate nightmare was finally over, and Daniel had miraculously regained his undisputed throne.
The false victory washed over him like a warm wave of absolute relief.
He looked around the dark rafters, wondering who had fired the perfect sniper shot that saved their lives.
A tall woman dressed in black tactical gear slowly climbed down from a hidden crane platform.
She walked into the dim light, slinging a massive sniper rifle over her shoulder.
It was Sarah Jenkins, Maya's mother, looking very much alive and incredibly dangerous.
Daniel stepped forward to thank the brilliant accountant for saving his entire family from destruction.
Eleanor suddenly stood up, casually wiping the fake tears from her beautiful face.
She walked directly past Daniel and stood shoulder-to-shoulder with the deadly sniper.
Eleanor smiled coldly at her husband and calmly instructed Ethan to take Maya and wait in the car.
"Silas was just a useful, arrogant idiot," Eleanor whispered, pulling a suppressed pistol from her coat.
She aimed the weapon directly at Daniel's heart without a single trace of hesitation.
"You really thought Silas was smart enough to steal my empire right out from under you?" Eleanor asked softly.

Maya looked back from the stairwell, staring directly at Eleanor with a bright, innocent smile.
"Did we do a good job, Mom?" the little girl asked happily.
