Chapter 6 - The Ghost's Ledger

Daniel slowly reached out and took the heavy leather ledger from Maya's trembling hands.

He opened the thick book and began scanning the meticulously handwritten pages.

It was Sarah’s unmistakable handwriting, detailing years of hidden financial transactions.

Silas had been slowly draining the syndicate's wealth to purchase military-grade weapons and hire private mercenaries.

His second-in-command was secretly building an army to overthrow Daniel and take over the city.

Daniel closed the ledger, a cold, calculating fury settling deeply into his bones.

"Where is your mother hiding right now?" Daniel asked the terrified girl.

"She is waiting for me at the old shipping docks on Pier 4," Maya whispered.

Daniel knew he had to secure Sarah before Silas found her and silenced her forever.

He called his most loyal and lethal bodyguard, a giant of a man named Marcus.

Marcus arrived at the safehouse within ten minutes, heavily armed and ready for war.

"Do not let anyone inside this bunker, and do not let these kids out," Daniel ordered Marcus.

Daniel left the safehouse and drove his armored SUV through the freezing rain toward the docks.

The shipping yards were completely deserted, cloaked in thick fog and eerie silence.

He parked near Pier 4 and drew his weapon, moving quietly between the rusted shipping containers.

He found the specific container Maya had described and slowly pushed the metal door open.

The container was completely empty, except for a single wooden chair in the center of the room.

Sitting on the chair was Eleanor’s diamond wedding ring, covered in fresh blood.

A cheap burner phone rested next to the bloody ring on the wooden seat.

As soon as Daniel stepped closer, the burner phone began to ring loudly in the dark.
