Chapter 4 - The Traitor

The harsh garage lights illuminated the betrayal on Thomas's face.
Gabriel did not look surprised, but the muscle in his jaw ticked with lethal fury.
"Sullivan pays better, Gabriel," Thomas called out, his voice echoing off the concrete walls.
Thomas raised a heavy shotgun and pointed it squarely at Gabriel's chest.
Gabriel did not waste a single second on conversation.
He dove behind a concrete pillar just as Thomas pulled the trigger, sending a spray of buckshot into the nearest luxury car.
"Get in the SUV," Gabriel screamed at Clare over the deafening gunfire.
Clare scrambled across the floor, diving into the open passenger door of the armored vehicle.
Gabriel returned fire from behind the pillar, dropping two of the gunmen with terrifying precision.
Thomas cursed loudly, ducking behind the engine block of the tactical truck.
The remaining gunman laid down suppressive fire, shredding the concrete pillar Gabriel was using for cover.
Gabriel realized he was pinned down and out of ammunition in his primary magazine.
He pulled a small, silver grenade from his jacket pocket and pulled the pin with his teeth.
He rolled the explosive beneath the tactical truck and covered his head.
The deafening blast rocked the underground bunker, throwing the heavy truck sideways and killing the last gunman.
Thomas emerged from the smoke, bleeding from his forehead, and lunged at Gabriel with a combat knife.
The two massive men collided on the floor, fighting with brutal, desperate violence.
Thomas managed to sink the blade deep into Gabriel's side.
Gabriel grunted in agony, twisted Thomas's wrist until the bone snapped, and drove the knife into the traitor's throat.
Thomas collapsed, choking on his own blood, as Gabriel slumped against the damaged truck.

Gabriel tossed a set of heavy keys through the open door of the SUV, hitting Clare in the lap.
He told her she had to drive, because he was bleeding out on the cold concrete.
