Chapter 3 - The Descent

The secret passageway smelled of damp earth and ancient dust.

Gabriel ignited a small tactical flashlight, casting a weak, trembling beam down a narrow spiral staircase.

Clare leaned against the cold stone, her chest heaving as she gasped for air.

"Who are those men?" she asked, her voice echoing faintly in the tight space.

Gabriel reloaded his weapon in the dark with practiced, terrifying efficiency.

He told her they belonged to Sullivan, a rival boss who had just decided to start a war.

Gabriel grabbed her wrist and forced her to keep moving down the steep, treacherous steps.

The muffled sounds of explosions vibrated through the stone walls, shaking dust into their hair.

Clare realized she had just sold her soul to a man whose world was currently burning to ash.

They descended for what felt like miles, moving deep beneath the sprawling estate.

Gabriel explained that this tunnel led to a hidden garage meant for extreme emergencies.

His grip on her wrist was like iron, a constant reminder of the contract they had just silently forged.

They finally reached a heavy iron door at the bottom of the stairs.

Gabriel pushed it open, revealing a massive underground concrete bunker lined with luxury vehicles.

He moved toward a sleek, black armored SUV in the center of the room.

"Get in the passenger seat and keep your head down," Gabriel ordered.

Clare ran toward the car, her slipped-resistant shoes squeaking against the polished concrete floor.

Suddenly, the blinding glare of high-beam headlights flooded the garage from the exit ramp.

A massive tactical truck blocked their only way out.

Four men stepped out of the truck, raising assault rifles and aiming them directly at the armored SUV.

And standing in the center of the gunmen was Thomas, Gabriel's trusted head of security.
