Chapter 9 - The Brink of War

Rosa dropped to her knees, frantically pulling Lily into her arms and burying her face in her daughter's dark hair.
Alessandro rushed to the old butler's side, pressing his own hands over the bleeding wound to apply pressure.
He demanded to know who had dared to strike a beloved member of his household.
Mr. Bruno coughed weakly, his face pale and slick with a cold sweat.
He explained that he had seen two of Isabella's men sneaking up the back stairs during the confusion.
He knew they were going for the child, so he smuggled Lily into the tunnels to keep her hidden.
The men had caught up to him, but he had managed to lock the heavy iron gate behind him after taking a knife to the gut.
Alessandro’s eyes turned pitch black with a rage so profound it seemed to lower the temperature in the cellar.
He lifted Mr. Bruno gently, ordering Rosa to follow close behind as he carried the old man up to the medical wing.
Once the butler was stabilized by the estate doctor, Alessandro turned his attention back to the Romanos.
He walked out the front doors of the mansion, his weapon raised and his patience entirely eradicated.
Vincent Romano was still shouting threats through the megaphone, demanding his daughter be placed on the throne.
Alessandro did not engage in diplomacy or mafia politics.
He raised his hand in the air, a silent command to the fifty snipers positioned on the estate's roof.
Dozens of red laser sights instantly appeared, painting Vincent Romano and his front-line soldiers in deadly crimson light.
Alessandro loudly declared that Isabella had attempted to murder his daughter, voiding any protection the council offered.
He gave Vincent exactly sixty seconds to take his treacherous daughter and leave the property forever.
If they refused, the Moretti family would slaughter every single person standing in the driveway.
Vincent looked at the red lasers dancing across his chest, realizing Alessandro was completely willing to start a bloodbath.

He cursed violently, realizing he had finally pushed the Don too far.
Vincent ordered his men to lower their weapons and fall back to the SUVs.
