Chapter 4 - The Traitor Inside

Alessandro tackled Rosa to the floor before the echo of the gunshot even faded.

He shielded her body with his own, yelling for Dante as the alarm sirens of the estate began to wail.

Dante burst into the room with his weapon drawn, immediately throwing himself over the sleeping child on the bed.

The entire household erupted into chaos as floodlights illuminated the dark gardens outside.

Alessandro crawled toward the shattered window, using a small mirror to check the angle of the sniper's trajectory.

His face contorted into a mask of pure, lethal fury.

He told Dante that the shot did not come from the woods outside the perimeter walls.

The angle of the bullet hole proved the shooter was positioned on the balcony of the east wing.

The hit had been ordered and executed by someone already living inside the heavily guarded estate.

Rosa gasped, instantly realizing that Isabella was staying in the east wing.

Alessandro ordered his men to tear the house apart and bring the shooter to him alive.

He pulled Rosa up from the floor, his hands gripping her shoulders with a frantic, protective strength.

He kissed her forehead, swearing on his life that he would bathe the estate in blood before letting anyone harm their family.

Ten agonizing minutes later, Dante returned to the master suite holding a long black sniper rifle.

He reported that they had found the shooter dead in a hallway closet, poisoned before he could escape.

Alessandro demanded to know if they had found anything connecting the dead man to Isabella Romano.

Dante hesitated, his eyes shifting nervously toward Rosa.

He slowly reached into his pocket and pulled out a piece of evidence found tightly clutched in the dead shooter's hand.

It was not something belonging to the Romanos.

It was a delicate silver locket containing a picture of Lily.

It was the exact same locket Rosa wore around her neck every single day.
