Chapter 3 - The Falling King

Dominic stared down the barrel of the suppressed pistol, his mind calculating his odds of survival.

Vanessa’s finger hovered dangerously over the trigger, her beautiful face twisted into a mask of pure hatred.

"The Volkov family sends their regards," she sneered, stepping closer.

Dominic did not flinch, utilizing the cold composure that had made him a king in the underworld.

"If you pull that trigger, my men will cut you into pieces before you reach the driveway," Dominic warned.

Vanessa laughed, a sharp and hollow sound that echoed in the luxurious bedroom.

"Your men are currently bleeding out on your expensive marble floors," she replied.

Dominic’s stomach dropped as he realized the true scale of his devastating mistake.

He had pushed away the only loyal people in his life for a woman who was actively slaughtering his guards.

In a split second, Dominic lunged forward, throwing his entire body weight toward the weapon.

The gun fired with a muffled cough, sending a burning bullet tearing through Dominic’s left shoulder.

He ignored the blinding agony, gripping Vanessa’s wrist and twisting it until the bone audibly snapped.

She screamed in pain, dropping the weapon onto the thick Persian rug.

Dominic kicked the gun under the bed and slammed his fist into her jaw, knocking her unconscious.

He gripped his bleeding shoulder, stumbling out of the bedroom and into the quiet hallway.

The estate was terrifyingly silent, confirming Vanessa’s claim about his personal security team.

He dragged himself down the grand staircase, leaving a trail of dark blood on the pristine white steps.

He needed to find Carrie and apologize for destroying everything they had built together.

He pulled his phone from his pocket, dialing his mother’s private number with trembling, bloody fingers.

Margaret answered on the first ring, the sound of gunfire echoing loudly in the background of her call.

"Mother, where are you?" Dominic choked out, leaning against the cold front door.

"We are at a motel in White Plains, and the Russians are trying to break down the door," Margaret yelled over the noise.

Dominic felt his heart shatter into a million jagged pieces.

His pregnant wife was trapped in a crossfire that he had personally brought into their lives.

"Hold them off, I am coming," Dominic promised, his voice thick with desperation.
