Chapter 10 - The New Beginning

The ocean breeze carried the scent of salt and freedom through the open windows of the coastal house.
Carrie sat in a comfortable rocking chair, gently humming a lullaby to her beautiful, healthy daughter.
Her physical scars from the surgery were healing perfectly, and the terrifying memories of that night were slowly fading.
Dominic walked into the nursery wearing a simple gray sweater, looking healthier and more at peace than he had in a decade.
He leaned down and kissed his wife softly on the forehead, then placed a gentle kiss on his daughter's tiny cheek.
"The lawyers called, Vanessa and the Volkovs have officially been indicted on federal RICO charges," Dominic announced quietly.
Carrie looked up at her husband, offering him a genuine, loving smile for the first time in months.
"It is finally over," Carrie whispered, leaning her head against his arm.
They had survived the ultimate betrayal, choosing forgiveness and family over pride and criminal power.
Dominic had kept every promise, completely dissolving his criminal network and focusing solely on his legitimate real estate investments.
Even Margaret had retired, spending her days knitting ridiculous sweaters for her new granddaughter.
Walter and Daniel lived in the guest houses on the property, enjoying a peaceful retirement as the family's trusted friends.
Carrie looked down at her left hand, where her diamond wedding ring rested securely on her finger once again.
She closed her eyes, letting the sound of the crashing waves wash away the last of her anxiety.
Later that evening, after putting the baby to sleep, Carrie walked into the kitchen to pour a glass of water.
Her phone vibrated on the marble counter, lighting up with a message from an unknown, untraceable number.
She unlocked the screen, expecting an alert from the security company about a perimeter check.
