Chapter 8 - The Confrontation

Sterling looked down through the observation glass with eyes that held absolutely no humanity or mercy.
"Step away from the table, Adrian, or I will put a bullet in his brain right now," Sterling commanded through the intercom.
Adrian froze, his hands hovering mere inches above the heavy leather straps binding his terrified son.
Sterling slowly walked down the metal staircase into the surgical theater, keeping the rifle perfectly aimed at the boy.
He casually explained that his own son was resting in the adjacent room, entirely prepped and ready to receive Noah's vital organs.
Adrian begged Sterling to take his own life instead, offering him his entire corporate empire and every dollar he owned.
Sterling laughed mockingly, stating that he already had more money than God and only cared about saving his own bloodline.
He looked at Adrian with a deeply twisted, victorious sneer and revealed a final, devastating secret.
Sterling proudly claimed that Claire had not just been blackmailed into keeping quiet about the orphanage.
He claimed that Claire had knowingly and willingly signed the final medical consent forms for tonight's fatal surgery.
Adrian violently shook his head, refusing to believe that his wife would ever condemn their son to death.
Sterling pulled a folded piece of paper from his pocket and tossed it onto the floor at Adrian's feet.
Adrian looked down and saw Claire's unmistakable, elegant signature on the bottom of the lethal surgical authorization.
"She wanted her freedom, and I offered her a brand new life in Europe in exchange for the boy," Sterling lied flawlessly.
Adrian felt a crushing wave of despair wash over him, the psychological manipulation completely breaking his focus.
Sterling smirked, resting his finger heavily on the trigger as he prepared to execute Adrian and proceed with the surgery.
He stated that it was finally time for the Caldwell legacy to end permanently in this underground room.

Suddenly, the blaring, deafening shriek of the facility's fire alarm echoed throughout the entire underground bunker.
Without any warning, the massive overhead surgical lights exploded into a shower of sparks, plunging the room into total darkness.
