Chapter 18 - The Power Outage

I raised the heavy red fire extinguisher high above my head and brought it crashing down onto the facility's primary server rack.
Sparks showered violently across the room as the expensive microprocessors shattered into a million useless pieces of plastic and wire.
Damien ripped the heavy power cables directly from the wall, his massive muscles straining as he tore the electrical conduits completely out of their sockets.
The glowing blue lights of the server room flickered frantically before dying instantly, plunging the entire island fortress into pitch blackness.
A deafening, synchronized klaxon alarm began to wail throughout the facility, signaling a catastrophic failure of the automated security grid.
"The electronic locks are dead. We have to move right now!" Damien yelled over the screaming alarms.
We sprinted out of the server room, plunging into the dark, chaotic hallways filled with panicked, confused mercenaries.
Without their advanced surveillance cameras and biometric checkpoints, Arthur's private army was completely blind in the dark.
I grabbed a discarded tactical flashlight from a supply cart, using it to navigate the labyrinth of corridors back toward the surgical wing.
We reached the heavy glass doors of the observation room, finding the magnetic locks completely disabled by our sabotage.
Damien kicked the glass doors open, charging into the surgical suite like a raging, unstoppable force of nature.
Two armed guards were standing over my sleeping children, frantically trying to communicate with their commanders on dead radios.
Damien didn't even hesitate; he tackled the first guard through a medical tray, driving his elbow viciously into the man's throat.
I grabbed a heavy stainless-steel surgical clamp and smashed it directly across the face of the second guard before he could draw his weapon.
The man dropped to the floor, completely unconscious, leaving the surgical suite eerily quiet beneath the blaring emergency alarms.
I rushed to the operating tables, my hands shaking violently as I ripped the heavy IV lines out of Ethan and Noah's arms.
They were still heavily sedated, their tiny bodies completely limp as I scooped Noah into my arms while Damien carefully grabbed Ethan.
"We need to get to the helipad on the roof before the backup generators fully engage," Damien ordered, checking the hallway for approaching threats.

Before we could take a single step toward freedom, the emergency red backup lights suddenly flickered on, bathing the surgical suite in a terrifying crimson glow.
Standing in the doorway, blocking our only exit, was Arthur Mercer himself, holding a high-powered revolver pointed directly at Damien’s chest.
