Chapter 6 - The Remote Sanctuary

Marcus placed the poison vial securely in his jacket pocket and sneaked back out into the cold night without making a sound.

He drove directly to an underground chemist he had once investigated during a rigorous corporate audit.

The skilled chemist worked frantically through the night to synthesize a viable antidote from the rare poison sample.

The chemist injected the bright blue serum into the arm of Marcus just as his heart began to palpitate dangerously.

Marcus felt his strength rapidly return and realized he needed to rescue his daughter before the sun came up.

He drove at top speed to the elite boarding school where Sarah had sent Lily to keep her out of the way.

He bypassed the sleeping campus security guards and carried his terrified daughter out to the stolen car.

He drove them to the remote and heavily fortified beach house that had belonged to his late wife.

He believed the isolated property was the only safe place left in the world for them to hide.

He unlocked the front door of the beach house and confidently flipped on the living room lights.

He froze in absolute terror when he saw Julian sitting casually on the couch holding a suppressed weapon.
