Chapter 3 - The Escape Plan

Marcus held his breath as the heavy brass doorknob of the office began to turn slowly.
He realized he had locked the door from the inside out of sheer paranoia when he first sneaked back into the house.
Sarah began to kick the solid wood paneling with surprising and terrifying strength.
Marcus knew he could not fight an armed professional killer in such a confined and vulnerable space.
He grabbed a heavy bronze statue from his desk and hurled it violently through the glass window.
He dived through the shattered frame just as the office door burst completely open behind him.
He sprinted across the manicured lawn and disappeared into the dense and shadowy forest behind his large estate.
His chest began to tighten painfully and his vision blurred as the poison in his morning coffee started to take effect.
He used a cheap burner phone to call a trusted private investigator named David for an emergency extraction.

David told him to run faster because Sarah had just called the police to report him as a violent armed intruder.
The investigator revealed that the poison in his bloodstream was a lethal synthetic compound that would kill him within hours.
