Chapter 1 - The Crimson Stain

The room went dead silent the moment the dark red wine splashed across his face.
Thick liquid ran down his crisp white collar, soaking into the expensive fabric of his custom suit.
Crystal glasses froze in midair as three hundred of the city's wealthiest elites turned to watch the spectacle.
At the absolute center of it all stood Victoria Hartwell, her chin tilted high with ruthless arrogance.
She held an empty crystal goblet in her hand, still burning with the confidence of a woman who thought the entire room belonged to her.
"You think you can come in here and touch my private reserve champagne?" she snapped coldly.
"Name one person who invited you to this VIP section, just one."
The man did not argue or raise his voice to match her aggressive tone.
He simply wiped his face slowly with a linen napkin and looked her directly in the eyes.
"Ma'am, I was invited by the host," he said with an unnerving calm.
That polite response should have ended the ridiculous confrontation immediately.
Instead, it only made her anger significantly worse.
Victoria laughed loudly, stepping closer to humiliate him further in front of her high-society peers.
She ruthlessly mocked the simple cut of his dark suit.
She insulted his lack of designer jewelry and demanded to know how he slipped past the front door.
Then she snapped her fingers for security, demanding he be forcefully removed from the premises.
She was absolutely certain she was protecting her exclusive space from a pathetic gatecrasher who didn't belong.
What the arrogant heiress didn't know was a secret that would soon destroy her life.
He wasn't a gatecrasher, and he certainly wasn't an employee.
Forty-five minutes earlier, Daniel Torres had arrived alone and quietly, with no need to announce his own presence.
He owned eighty percent of the luxury building they were currently standing inside.
He was the primary financial sponsor of this charity gala.
And by Monday morning, his private equity firm was supposed to sign a massive five hundred million dollar deal with the Hartwell family empire.
Victoria had just poured cheap wine on the only man holding her failing company's entire future in his powerful hands.
Still, she kept going with her relentless verbal assault.
Even after the head of security frantically checked the digital guest list.
Even after Daniel's name appeared at the very top with VIP clearance.
Even after the surrounding guests started whispering in absolute horror.
"No, that has to be a fake identification," Victoria declared stubbornly.
Then, every single mobile phone belonging to the Hartwell executives in the room began buzzing simultaneously.
Victoria turned around just in time to see her father, the powerful CEO Richard Hartwell, pushing through the crowd with a face as pale as a ghost.
May you like
Richard ignored his daughter completely and dropped directly to his knees on the wet marble floor right in front of Daniel.
"Mr. Torres, please, I beg you not to destroy my family for this," Richard pleaded, his voice trembling with sheer terror.
