Chapter 2 - The Blood Test
I stared at the dark barrel of the gun, completely unable to process his accusation.
I did not have plastic surgery, I cried out, my voice cracking with absolute panic.
The baby in my arms whimpered at the loud noise, his tiny hands gripping my shirt even tighter.
The mafia boss looked at his son, his rigid jaw clenching as he slowly lowered the weapon.
He gestured to the bodyguard sitting in the front passenger seat.
Scan her face, he ordered coldly.
The guard pulled out a sleek military tablet and pointed the camera directly at me.
A harsh blue light swept across my terrified features.
The tablet chimed, and the guard turned around with a face as pale as a ghost.
Boss, it is a flawless, natural biometric match, the guard stammered.
The mafia boss stared at me like I was a ghost that had just crawled out of a grave.
My name is Elina Valdez, and I am just an orphan trying to pay my rent, I whispered.
He did not say another word for the rest of the agonizing drive.
The armored SUV pulled up to massive iron gates hidden deep within a forested mountain.
The gates swung open, revealing a sprawling, heavily fortified estate that looked like a modern castle.
Armed guards patrolled the perimeter with large dogs and assault rifles.
The vehicle stopped, and the boss ordered me to follow him inside.
He led me down a long, marble hallway to a heavy steel door equipped with a digital scanner.
This vault requires Isabella's specific genetic signature to open, he stated, watching me closely.
He grabbed my trembling hand and pressed my thumb against the glowing green glass.
A mechanical voice confirmed a biological match, and the heavy steel door clicked open.
I gasped, pulling my hand back as if the scanner had burned my skin.
The boss stepped closer, his dark eyes filled with a terrifying mixture of hope and rage.
You are not just a lookalike, Elina, he murmured.
May you like
You are carrying her exact DNA in your veins.
Suddenly, a gunshot echoed from the courtyard outside.
