Chapter 10 - The Happy Ending

The deafening explosion shattered the loading doors, blowing a massive hole through the burning warehouse.

I covered Leo with my own body as sharp debris rained down across the metal container.

The shockwave knocked the air completely out of my lungs, and the world faded into absolute darkness.

When I finally opened my eyes, the harsh, bright lights of a pristine hospital room blinded me.

I panicked, trying to sit up, but a strong, familiar hand gently pushed my shoulder back down against the pillows.

Dante was sitting beside my bed, looking bruised and exhausted, but very much alive.

He smiled, tapping the thick, bulletproof Kevlar vest resting on the chair next to him.

The bullet only grazed my shoulder where the vest opened, Dante explained, kissing my forehead softly.

Victor died in the blast, and the entire syndicate is finally safe.

Tears of pure joy streamed down my face as a nurse walked in carrying a perfectly healthy, giggling Leo.

I pulled the baby into my arms, feeling a profound sense of peace wash over my entire soul.

Dante knelt beside the hospital bed, pulling a beautiful diamond ring from his pocket.

I want you to formally adopt Leo, and I want you to be my wife, Dante whispered.

I said yes without a single second of hesitation, and we shared a beautiful, emotional kiss.

A week later, we were at the estate, happily packing our suitcases for a long, peaceful honeymoon in Italy.

Leo was playing safely on the expensive rug while Dante loaded the car outside.

My cell phone rang on the nightstand, displaying an unknown, restricted international number.

I answered the call, expecting it to be the travel agency confirming our private flight.

Instead, a chillingly familiar woman's voice echoed through the static of the speaker.

Enjoy my husband while you can, Elina, because you are living on borrowed time.

I am Isabella, and I am coming back for my son.
