Chapter 6 - The Poisoned Needle

I watched through the glass as Vanessa slowly uncapped the needle.
She leaned over my sleeping daughter, her face devoid of any human emotion.
I did not have time to find a door or a security code.
I picked up a heavy decorative stone from the garden path and smashed it directly through the window pane.
The glass shattered into a thousand pieces, the loud crash echoing into the quiet clinic.
Vanessa screamed and dropped the syringe onto the pristine white floor.
I climbed through the jagged frame, ignoring the deep cuts slicing into my palms and forearms.
I lunged at my sister before she could recover her senses.
I tackled her to the ground, pinning her arms beneath my knees.
I demanded to know what was inside the syringe she was about to inject into my child.
Vanessa laughed, a hysterical, broken sound that chilled me to the bone.
She told me it was a heavy sedative designed to keep Emma completely unconscious for the next twenty-four hours.
I grabbed Vanessa by the collar of her expensive blouse and shook her violently.
I asked her why they needed Emma to remain asleep.
Vanessa smiled cruelly, blood trickling from a scratch on her cheek.
She whispered that my mother was never the true mastermind of this operation.
My mother threw the pan because my father ordered her to do it.
Vanessa revealed that my father’s business empire was on the verge of total financial collapse.
He owed millions to a dangerous international syndicate, and they had come to collect their debt.
Emma was the only pure, untraceable asset they had left to leverage.
I stared at my sister in absolute horror, struggling to comprehend her words.
They were not trying to cover up an abusive accident.
They were preparing to sell my four-year-old daughter to clear a corporate debt.
Heavy footsteps pounded down the hallway outside the room.
Two massive security guards burst through the door, drawing their stun batons.
May you like
Vanessa scrambled to her feet, pointing a perfectly manicured finger directly at my face.
She ordered the guards to subdue me, claiming I was the violent intruder who had attacked her.
