Chapter 7 - The Ambush at the Diner

Thomas’s face vanished from the screen as the laptop completely shut itself down.
Daniel shouted for everyone to abandon the vehicle immediately.
He knew Thomas and his tactical death squad were already closing in on their exact coordinates.
Claire grabbed the useless laptop, hoping the FBI had received enough data to act.
They rushed out of the car and sprinted toward the rusty back doors of the abandoned diner.
Daniel kicked the rotting wood open and ushered the women inside the dark building.
He ordered them to hide behind the heavy stainless steel counter in the old kitchen.
Within seconds, three black SUVs skidded violently into the gravel parking lot outside.
The bright headlights pierced through the dirty diner windows, casting long, terrifying shadows across the room.
Thomas stepped out of the lead vehicle, holding a heavy pump-action shotgun.
He raised a megaphone to his mouth, his voice echoing loudly through the quiet night.
Thomas demanded that they hand over the little girl and the hard drive, promising a quick and painless death in return.
Daniel checked his service weapon, realizing he only had seven bullets left in the magazine.
María drew her gun, her hands completely steady despite the overwhelming odds against them.
She whispered to Emily, promising the little girl that she would never let the bad men take her back.
Daniel crept toward the front window, preparing to fire a desperate shot at the corrupt father.
Before Daniel could pull the trigger, a tear gas canister crashed through the glass window.

Thick, blinding white smoke instantly filled the small diner, burning their eyes and choking their lungs.
Through the chaotic smoke, the heavy front door was violently kicked off its metal hinges.
