Chapter 3 - The Corrupt Precinct

Daniel pounded his fist against the locked steel door in the dark.

He realized Thomas must have triggered a remote lockdown switch from his pocket before being handcuffed.

Daniel shot the digital keypad with his service weapon, completely destroying the locking mechanism.

He kicked the heavy door open and sprinted back up the concrete stairs into the quiet house.

María was standing in the living room with her weapon drawn.

She told him that two unmarked black SUVs had just parked at the end of the street.

Daniel grabbed the black ledger from his jacket and shoved it into María’s hands.

He explained that their own Captain was involved in this massive criminal network.

They could not trust anyone at the local police station with this evidence.

María looked out the front window as four armed men in tactical gear stepped out of the SUVs.

They were not wearing police uniforms, but they moved with terrifying military precision.

Daniel knew they had come to silence Thomas and erase the little girl before the scandal broke.

He told María to take Emily out through the back door and run through the neighboring yards.

Daniel promised to hold the front door long enough to give them a head start.

The armed men marched up the driveway with suppressed automatic rifles raised.

Daniel flipped over the heavy oak dining table to create a makeshift barricade.

He checked his ammunition and took a slow, deep breath.

Before the men could breach the front door, a deafening explosion shattered the quiet suburban street.

The police cruiser parked outside suddenly burst into a massive ball of orange flames.
