Chapter 7 - The Desperate Dive

Bullets rained down from the shipping containers, sparking violently against the wet concrete docks.
Adrian did not hesitate or run for the safety of the metal cargo crates.
He sprinted directly toward the edge of the pier and dove headfirst into the freezing, pitch-black water.
The icy ocean hit him like a physical blow, completely stealing the air from his burning lungs.
He swam frantically through the dark water, searching desperately for Elena’s sinking form.
The heavy steel chains wrapped around her waist were dragging her rapidly toward the muddy bottom.
Adrian kicked his legs with explosive power, finally reaching her struggling, drowning body in the depths.
He pulled his sharp combat knife from his boot and sawed aggressively through the thick nylon ropes binding her hands.
Elena gasped underwater, her eyes wide with sheer panic as her lungs completely ran out of oxygen.
Adrian grabbed her securely by the waist, kicking fiercely toward the faint moonlight shining on the surface.
They broke through the churning waves, gasping loudly for air as bullets continued to splash dangerously around them.
Adrian pulled Elena under the protective overhang of the wooden pier, shielding her from the snipers above.
"I thought I would never see you again," Elena sobbed, burying her freezing face into his wet chest.
"I am never letting you go again," Adrian whispered fiercely, kissing her cold, trembling lips.
They clung to the slippery wooden pilings, slowly moving through the shadows toward the rocky shoreline.
After ten agonizing minutes of sneaking through the freezing water, they finally reached the desolate beach.
Adrian checked his tactical vest, a massive wave of overwhelming relief washing over him when he felt the glass vial was still intact.
"We have to get this medicine to Mia right now," Adrian said, helping Elena climb up the muddy embankment.
They sprinted through the dark industrial park, eventually finding a rusted, abandoned pickup truck with the keys left inside.
Adrian hot-wired the old engine, speeding recklessly back toward the hidden underground clinic.
He prayed silently that the old doctor had managed to keep his fragile daughter alive.
They finally arrived at the secret alleyway, but Adrian slammed on the brakes in absolute horror.

The entire underground clinic was completely engulfed in massive, roaring orange flames.
Victoria’s men had found the safehouse, and the building was burning to the ground with Clara and Mia trapped inside.
