Chapter 6 - The Dockside Trap

Elena looked exactly as beautiful as Adrian remembered, despite her bruised face and torn clothes.
She was gagged with a piece of dirty cloth, tears streaming down her face as she looked down at him.
"You have a very difficult choice to make tonight, Adrian," Victoria mocked through a loud megaphone.
"You can either sign my papers and take the antidote for your dying baby."
"Or you can try to save the love of your life before I drop her into the freezing water."
Adrian stared up at the catwalk, his tactical mind analyzing every possible angle of the deadly trap.
There were six snipers positioned on the surrounding shipping containers, their laser sights resting on his chest.
"Let her go, Victoria, she has absolutely nothing to do with your corporate greed!" Adrian shouted furiously.
Victoria smirked, waving the corporate transfer documents in the cold ocean breeze.
"Sign the papers first, and then we will discuss the fate of your pathetic family."
Adrian slowly reached into his jacket, keeping his hands perfectly visible to the nervous snipers above.
He pulled out a pen, knelt on the wet concrete, and signed his name on the bottom of the glowing tablet she lowered by a rope.
He sent the tablet back up, surrendering his entire billion-dollar empire without a single second of hesitation.
"Now give me the antidote and release Elena," Adrian demanded, stepping forward aggressively.
Victoria reviewed the digital signature, her wicked smile growing wider as she confirmed the total transfer of power.
"You really are a naive fool, Adrian," Victoria laughed cruelly.
She deliberately opened her hand, letting the glowing blue vial fall perfectly toward the concrete below.
Adrian dove forward desperately, catching the fragile glass vial inches before it shattered on the hard ground.
He let out a massive sigh of relief, securing the life-saving medicine inside his padded tactical vest.
Then, a terrifying, mechanical screech echoed loudly above him.
Victoria had aggressively pulled the heavy steel lever controlling the rusted industrial crane.
The chain snapped instantly, dropping Elena straight down into the freezing, violent, churning ocean waves.

Victoria signaled her heavily armed mercenaries to open fire on the docks.
"Kill him and retrieve the antidote immediately!" Victoria shrieked to her men.
