Chapter 10 - The Valedictorian's Vengeance

The police officers swiftly hauled my screaming stepmother out of the auditorium, her furious threats fading down the hallway.

Haley was crying uncontrollably as an officer read her Miranda rights, officially arresting her for federal theft and trespassing.

My father didn't fight back, didn't scream, and didn't try to negotiate anymore.

He simply stared blankly at the floor as the cold steel handcuffs locked around his wrists, completely broken by his own greed.

As the heavy wooden doors closed behind my ruined family, a profound sense of peace finally washed over me.

Dean Bradley walked over and placed a reassuring hand on my shoulder, smiling warmly.

"I believe we still have a graduation ceremony to finish, Dr. Hensley," he announced to the cheering crowd.

I walked up to the podium, looking out at the thousands of smiling faces, and delivered the valedictorian speech I had practiced for months in secret.

When I finally held my doctoral diploma and the ten-million-dollar grant check in my hands, I knew I had officially rewritten my destiny.

The rest of the afternoon was a blur of joyful handshakes, flashing cameras, and wealthy donors offering me full control of their research labs.

I had won everything, my future was secured, and the toxic shadow of my family was gone forever.

As the auditorium finally began to empty out, I walked alone toward the backstage exit, ready to start my new life.

Suddenly, a tall, broad-shouldered man in a meticulously tailored black suit stepped out from the shadows, blocking my path.

He didn't say a word as he reached into his jacket and handed me a thick, jet-black envelope sealed with crimson wax.

"Dr. Hensley, your biological mother has spent twenty-five years looking for you, and she finally knows where you are," he whispered, his voice dangerously low.

I stared at the strange crest pressed into the wax, my blood running cold as he leaned in closer.

"She needs the best doctor in the world immediately, but if anyone finds out you're coming with me, neither of you will survive the night."
