Chapter 9 - The Edge of Madness

Ivy stepped fully into the cabin, her eyes burning with the fierce, unstoppable wrath of a mother.

She kept the heavy shotgun aimed directly at Selene’s chest, her finger tight against the trigger.

Rowan wasted no time, rushing instantly to the corner of the room to untie his weeping daughter.

He ripped the gag from Elara’s mouth and pulled her into a desperate, crushing embrace.

Selene stared at Ivy in absolute disbelief, completely unable to process how she had been outsmarted.

Ivy explained that she had placed a hidden GPS tracker in Rowan’s truck months ago for emergencies.

She had followed his signal up the mountain, accompanied by a dozen heavily armed tactical police officers.

The sound of approaching sirens and shouting voices began to echo through the dark forest outside.

Selene realized that her grand master plan had completely disintegrated into absolute ruin.

She looked at the signed legal documents in her hand, knowing they were now entirely worthless.

Her expression shifted from arrogant victory to complete, unhinged madness in a matter of seconds.

She lunged toward the kerosene lantern, violently kicking it across the room into a pile of dry firewood.

The highly flammable liquid shattered, instantly igniting the rotting wood of the ancient cabin walls.

A massive wall of fire erupted between Selene and the rest of the terrified family.

Ivy grabbed Rowan’s arm, screaming at him to get Elara out of the burning building immediately.

Rowan scooped his daughter into his arms and sprinted out the front door into the freezing rain.

Ivy followed closely behind him, keeping her weapon raised just in case Selene tried to follow.

They reached the muddy driveway just as the tactical police units swarmed the blazing property.

Officers rushed forward with fire extinguishers, desperately trying to contain the massive, roaring inferno.

Rowan held Ivy and Elara tightly, watching the flames consume the dark, evil history of the cabin.

He expected to see Selene dragged out of the building in heavy steel handcuffs.

Instead, a massive, burning wooden beam collapsed from the roof, completely blocking the front exit.

The entire structure groaned violently before caving in on itself in a spectacular shower of orange sparks.

The police commander shook his head, confirming that nobody could have possibly survived that catastrophic collapse.

Rowan looked at the burning wreckage, feeling a complex mixture of profound relief and quiet mourning.

His sister was gone forever, and his family was finally, completely safe from her cruelty.

An officer approached Rowan, handing him a charred, fireproof metal lockbox recovered from the edge of the flames.

The officer explained that Selene had thrown it out the window just seconds before the roof collapsed.
